Founded by the philanthropic-minded Nadars of Chennai in 1966, the CHENNAI VAZH NADARGAL SANGAM aimed to establish educational institutions. With a significant contribution from its members, the Sangam acquired 41 acres of land on the Chennai-Nellore Trunk Road, approximately 16 km from Chennai.

In 1983, Sri Nallalaghu Polytechnic was established under the guidance of Sri. A.N. Srinivasaga Nadar, Sri. A.N. Ramasamy Nadar, and Sri. A.N. Govindasamy Nadar, in memory of their father Sri. TVA Nallalaghu Nadar. The initiative to start this educational institution received support from the Government of Tamil Nadu through G.O.Ms. No.2163 ESt dated 15-11-1983.
The KAMARAJ EDUCATION & RESEARCH FOUNDATION was formed on 9-12-1983, entrusted with managing Sri Nallalaghu Polytechnic under the guidance of its trustees. The polytechnic was initially inaugurated on 9-12-1983 at I.I.E.T Campus Kodambakkam, Chennai - 600 024. After functioning temporarily at this location until 30th August 1984, it was later relocated to its own premises at Puzhal. The institution holds recognition from A.I.C.T.E., as indicated in the letter No 15/BIII/Rc(M)/93 dated 17-04-1994.
