The Government College of Engineering Poonjar was established in the year 2000 is located at Poonjar in Kottayam district. After the completion of 2014 Admissions, the college was affiliated to Cochin University of Science and Technology and currently is affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.

The institute offers four year B.Tech. degree courses in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Each branch has an annual intake of 60 students. The admission is based on the merit list in the Kerala State Common Entrance Test (CET) and the candidates who have passed Higher Secondary Examination, Kerala, or Examinations recognized with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and Chemistry as one of the optional subjects with at least 45% marks put together are eligible for admission.
The college has well furnished classrooms with comfortable seats. All faculties are dedicated and experienced. A good spacious library having wide collection of reference materials, textbooks, magazines and journals are available in campus. It is highly essential for students, staff and researchers. This institution has a very neat canteen facility. The institution owns two hostels for girls at Poonjar (Ganga hostel) and Erattupetta (Nila hostel) and is directly managed by the college. The hostels ensures safety and security among the students.
