In 1977, a group of compassionate, broad-minded, and enthusiastic individuals from the local community united with a sincere mission to eradicate illiteracy and ignorance among the minority population in the region. This joint endeavor culminated in the establishment of the Islamic Cultural Association (ICA) of Vadakkekad.
Pioneering educational initiatives, the association inaugurated a residential English Medium School in 1978, marking the first of its kind in South Malabar. The school was dedicated to imparting both secular and religious studies. Evolving over time, the institution attained higher secondary status in 1991.
Furthering their commitment to education, the ICA expanded into higher education, founding an Arts and Science College in 2002. This college, named in memory of Late A.C. Kunhimon Haji, the Founder President and Chief Patron of the ICA Higher Secondary School, is situated in a tranquil environment encompassing approximately 15 acres of land. Conveniently located along the Guruvayoor-Ponnani State Highway, 6 kilometers north of Guruvayoor and 8 kilometers southwest of Kunnamkulam, the college follows ICA traditions, striving for a comprehensive education emphasizing ethics, diversity, and intellectual standards. The college operates as a self-financing higher educational institution affiliated with the University of Calicut.
Since its inception, the College has maintained a record of academic excellence, consistently achieving commendable results across various degree and postgraduate programs. Noteworthy is the attainment of 12 University Ranks for different postgraduate programs.
The institution has also gained recognition for nurturing talented athletes, especially in Kabaddi and Body Building, who have excelled at the university, state, and national levels. Additionally, the College has been a breeding ground for accomplished artists in diverse cultural activities. In acknowledgment of its commitment to educational excellence, the College received a national-level educational excellence award in December 2010 from the India Chapter of the Indus Foundation, based in the USA.
